Education Director
Oregon Maple Project – Camp Colton, Oregon
Seasonal | November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026 | 30 hrs per week | $4,000 per month

Do you love teaching outdoors? Are you excited to share your admiration for the natural world with learners of all ages? Join the Oregon Maple Project (OMP) as our Education Director for the 2025–26 winter season!

About Us

The Oregon Maple Project is a small nonprofit with the mission of inspiring experiential learning, community partnership, and connection to nature through local production of Bigleaf Maple syrup. Over the past five years, we’ve engaged thousands of people in the irresistible art of Bigleaf Maple sugaring. 

 

The Role

The Education Director runs all aspects of OMP’s educational programs, including: 

  • Monthly Sugaring Workshops for community members 

  • Weekly Maple Field Trips for Portland-area schools

  • A series of Family Maple Camps

 Working closely with a small staff, the Education Director is essential in helping OMP develop, grow, and meet its mission. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead all maple field trips, workshops, and camps

  • Develop and coordinate a volunteer base to support programs

  • Provide positive, hands-on outdoor learning experiences for all participants

  • Adapt existing curriculum and create new programming as needed

  • Learn and teach best practices in Bigleaf Maple sugaring

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Farm Manager, and Camp Colton staff

  • Assist with sap processing and syrup production

  • Promote and document programs

  • Build partnerships with schools and nonprofits, with an emphasis on engaging underserved communities

  • Help maintain and improve OMP facilities​

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Teaching experience

  • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest plants

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Creativity, stamina, and enthusiasm for learning

  • Interest and/or experience in maple sugaring 
     

Schedule & Compensation

  • Seasonal position: November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026

  • 30 hours/week (.75 FTE) with weekend work required

  • $4,000/month salary

Farm Manager
Oregon Maple Project – Camp Colton, Oregon
Seasonal | November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026 | 40 hrs per week | $4,000 per month + housing

Do you love working outdoors in the winter woods? Are you energized by teaching, problem solving, and hands-on tasks? Would you like to become a Pacific Northwest sugar maker? Join the Oregon Maple Project (OMP) as our Farm Manager for the 2025–26 winter season.

 

About Us

The Oregon Maple Project (OMP) is a small nonprofit with the mission of inspiring experiential education, community partnership, and connection to nature through local production of Bigleaf Maple syrup. Over the past five years, we’ve engaged thousands of people in the irresistible art of Bigleaf Maple sugaring.

The Role

The Farm Manager runs all aspects of OMP’s sugaring operation, including: 

  • Our 200-tap sap-collection system on buckets and vacuum tubing 

  • Our reverse osmosis filter

  • Our wood-fired evaporator in a working sugar shack

  • The OMP Sugaring Collective. 

 

This is both a technical and educational position, with the goal of teaching and employing best practices in Bigleaf Maple sugaring. Working closely with a small, dedicated staff, the Farm Manager is essential in helping OMP to develop, grow, and meet its mission. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead OMP’s Bigleaf Maple sugaring operation, producing a crop of quality syrup

  • Recruit, train, and engage the membership of OMP’s Sugaring Collective

  • Learn, implement, and teach best practices in Bigleaf Maple sugaring

  • Develop and coordinate a volunteer base to assist with the work of sugaring

  • Collaborate with the Education Director, Executive Director, & Camp Colton to help OMP thrive

  • Steward and improve OMP’s sugaring equipment and facilities

  • Host Community Sugaring parties

  • Document OMP’s sugaring season

  • Interact with regional sugarers for training and events. 

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in maple sugaring or farming/food production

  • Teaching experience

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently

  • Enthusiasm for learning and problem-solving

  • Organizational abilities

  • Stamina   

 

Schedule & Compensation

  • Seasonal position: November 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026

  • Average of 40 hours per week, with weekend work required

  • Unpredictable hours based on nature’s schedule

  • $4,000/month salary
